Summary

He thinks she's an annoying know-it-all。。。

Hugh Prentice has never had patience for dramatic females, and if Lady Sarah Pleinsworth has ever been acquainted with the words shy or retiring, she's long since tossed them out the window。 Besides, a reckless duel has left this brilliant mathematician with a ruined leg, and now he could never court a woman like Sarah, much less dream of marrying her。

She thinks he's just plain mad。。。

Sarah has never forgiven Hugh for the duel he fought that nearly destroyed her family。 But even if she could find a way to forgive him, it wouldn't matter。 She doesn't care that his leg is less than perfect, it's his personality she can't abide。 But forced to spend a week in close company they discover that first impressions are not always reliable。 And when one kiss leads to two, three, and four, the mathematician may lose count, and the lady may, for the first time, find herself speechless 。。。

New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn's enchanting third novel in the Smythe-Smith quartet is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud and tug at your heartstrings in equal measures。

This was absolutely fantastic!!! Of course it was going to be the best of the series, it's a hate to love with tons of banter, drama, fun with the previous couples and overall it was just wonderful。 I really felt for Hugh and his wound, and I liked Sarah's character evolution。 They're my favorite couple of the series, hands down。 But it's no suprise, since this was book that motivated me to read the series (from all the historical romance videos I've been watching on Youtube)。 This was absolutely fantastic!!! 4。5 starsThe wit and conversational aspect of this book is so strong and so powerful it, in all honesty, earned the four and a half stars all by itself。I found my myself actually laughing aloud on multiple occasions。The banter is to die for。 I haven’t read this amount of quality banter since reading Wallbanger! The only reason it is laking a half of a star, is because it is just like every other Julia Quinn novel。 Absolutely brilliant, but the general storyline is not all that surprising。 4。5 starsThe wit and conversational aspect of this book is so strong and so powerful it, in all honesty, earned the four and a half stars all by itself。I found my myself actually laughing aloud on multiple occasions。The banter is to die for。 I haven’t read this amount of quality banter since reading Wallbanger! The only reason it is laking a half of a star, is because it is just like every other Julia Quinn novel。 Absolutely brilliant, but the general storyline is not all that surprising。 。。。more

This one wasn't bad and doesn't do much wrong by itself, it's just that most of it has been seen before。 Obviously some repetition and tropes are common in romance, but this felt like a mash-up of several of Julia Quinn's other books, which is a bit much。 Glad I just listened to the audiobook and didn't spend too much time or money on it, this was fine for what it was。 This one wasn't bad and doesn't do much wrong by itself, it's just that most of it has been seen before。 Obviously some repetition and tropes are common in romance, but this felt like a mash-up of several of Julia Quinn's other books, which is a bit much。 Glad I just listened to the audiobook and didn't spend too much time or money on it, this was fine for what it was。 。。。more

3。5*I liked this one better than Just Like Heaven but I think I might be have Julia Quinn over consumption! This is my ninth book of hers this year and I can’t stop reading them!I enjoyed Sarah and Hugh’s developing relationship。 There was more plot to this one and I enjoyed the banter and development of their trust。 A fun, light historical romp。

This was okay。 I saw another review for this book on here that describes it as “brain candy” and I agree with that assessment。 I love Julia Quinn and will read pretty much anything she puts out。 Some are my favorites (The Girl With the Make Believe Husband, Dancing At Midnight, To Sir Phillip With Love) and some aren’t (The Duke and I, some other Bridgerton Prequel whose title I’m completely blanking on and this one), but I’ll read them anyway because I’m a sap for ANY sweet romances showing ANY This was okay。 I saw another review for this book on here that describes it as “brain candy” and I agree with that assessment。 I love Julia Quinn and will read pretty much anything she puts out。 Some are my favorites (The Girl With the Make Believe Husband, Dancing At Midnight, To Sir Phillip With Love) and some aren’t (The Duke and I, some other Bridgerton Prequel whose title I’m completely blanking on and this one), but I’ll read them anyway because I’m a sap for ANY sweet romances showing ANY hint of vulnerability within the character(s)。 This in particular I’d say was a solid 3 star read for me。 Maybe it was supposed to be a hate to love romance, but really, Sarah and Hugh didn’t hate each other at all。 At best, they annoyed each other。 Sarah supposedly “hated” or didn’t forgive Hugh for dueling her cousin and forcing him to leave the country, but it was so pale。 I didn’t really see any instances where she was angry with him。 (Although to be fair, the reason for the dual WAS very stupid and I don’t blame her for being angry。 It was told she was but not really shown)。 Annoyed by him, yes, but not angry。 Hugh, I think, also wasn’t supposed to like her very much either, but again, I didn’t see any instances where you could tell they did not like each other。 They clearly liked each other and made that fact known to me。 Really, they were hanging out at a wedding the entire time, in each other’s constant presence。 They didn’t really go anywhere or do anything different, so it was just fluffy。 Nothing deep。 But it was cute anyway, and like I said, if there’s a romance with ANY hint of character vulnerability (Hugh has an injured/bum leg from said stupid duel), I’m a sap for it。 (Or is it sucker?) 。。。more

Hugh Prentice regrets the duel that injured him and sent a good man on the run。 Sarah Pleinsworth still blames him for the scandal that rocked her family and isn't shy about letting him know it。 Forced to spend time together during a fortnight of weddings, they can't help but banter their way into friendship。。。or more。 But Hugh's secret could be their undoing。I'll be honest。 The villain of the piece was a bit OTT to be believable, but I just didn't care because I enjoyed reading this so much。 Ba Hugh Prentice regrets the duel that injured him and sent a good man on the run。 Sarah Pleinsworth still blames him for the scandal that rocked her family and isn't shy about letting him know it。 Forced to spend time together during a fortnight of weddings, they can't help but banter their way into friendship。。。or more。 But Hugh's secret could be their undoing。I'll be honest。 The villain of the piece was a bit OTT to be believable, but I just didn't care because I enjoyed reading this so much。 Banter is one of my favourite things in romance novels and The Sum of All Kisses certainly delivered on that score。 However, the best part of this book was undoubtedly Sarah。 She grew as a character and admitted her faults。 She took on the Big Bad and got shit done。 And she deservedly claimed her HEA。 。。。more

I adore pretty much any Julia Quinn book (and usually devour them in a day like I did this one)。 I do have to say however that this one was one of my least favorites so far。I liked Hugh fine, he was nerdy in a new type of way than most of the romantic interests - but Sarah took a lot to get used to/grow on me。 Sarah wasn't easy to like for Hugh (or me)。 Their getting together feels a bit forced。I think I have also gotten frustrated - 3 books in - hearing how bad the musicals are, and how much ev I adore pretty much any Julia Quinn book (and usually devour them in a day like I did this one)。 I do have to say however that this one was one of my least favorites so far。I liked Hugh fine, he was nerdy in a new type of way than most of the romantic interests - but Sarah took a lot to get used to/grow on me。 Sarah wasn't easy to like for Hugh (or me)。 Their getting together feels a bit forced。I think I have also gotten frustrated - 3 books in - hearing how bad the musicals are, and how much everyone hates them。 Feels repetitive and overplayed。I'll give it a 2。5 since I really struggle to finish books that I rate a 2 - and this one wasn't that bad, but just wasn't my cup of tea。 。。。more

Say it with me now: "Julia Quinn does it again!" Because she has。 This is such a fun enemies-to-lovers romance between two people who just cannot stand each other (as the trope says)。 Sarah hates Hugh for what his actions in a duel did to her family。。。and he can't stand her because she's overly dramatic (in his eyes) and because, well, she hates him! But when they're stuck together in these 2 back-to-back weddings of their friends and family。。。they may revise their previous opinions。 And duh, of Say it with me now: "Julia Quinn does it again!" It's very funny and great and it made the book so much better! I think this book could have been much more interesting, but I didn't like it that much。 I guess the plot deserved more action and less dialogues without action。 So I really enjoyed the way it developed because it got more awesome in the final chapters。 It is a good book! I liked Hugh and Sarah, although I really liked him more。 I also liked to see other characters from previous books and loved the way they all have stories between them and the way the plot intersects their stories。 It was what I liked here the most。 It is a good book, with a cute romance but not a great romance。 I think the stories from the previous two books are more awesome。 So I liked it, it is cute and a funny reading。 Recommend it to everyone who likes this books! 。。。more

I have a soft spot for almost every Julia Quinn novel I read, and it always seems to lift my spirits a bit。 While romance novels of this type are often filled with cliche tropes and almost unbelievable storylines at times, they serve another purpose。 Obviously these types of historical romance novels are not usually intended to hit on the deep-seated problems of society or one’s inner struggle with themself, but they do serve as a distraction where the reader can avoid their everyday problems an I have a soft spot for almost every Julia Quinn novel I read, and it always seems to lift my spirits a bit。 While romance novels of this type are often filled with cliche tropes and almost unbelievable storylines at times, they serve another purpose。 Obviously these types of historical romance novels are not usually intended to hit on the deep-seated problems of society or one’s inner struggle with themself, but they do serve as a distraction where the reader can avoid their everyday problems and just read a book they know ends with a happy ending。 A book doesn’t have to be some brilliant expose for it to receive 5 stars, it only needs to give you enjoyment。 This book was so sweet and made me want to fall in love。 It is the perfect book when you want a fluffy romance that you know has a happy ending。 。。。more

。。。more

This one was hard to get into for me - the initial adversarial relationship between the two leads was not believable。 But once things got going, the love story was heartwarming and felt realistic。 I found the somewhat fantastical plot twist toward the end with Hugh's father to be a bit much, but I'd call this another Quinn win - great dialogue, a believable love story, and good prevailing in the end。 This one was hard to get into for me - the initial adversarial relationship between the two leads was not believable。 But once things got going, the love story was heartwarming and felt realistic。 I found the somewhat fantastical plot twist toward the end with Hugh's father to be a bit much, but I'd call this another Quinn win - great dialogue, a believable love story, and good prevailing in the end。 。。。more

Julia Quinn’s style is always exquisite and sharp-witted, fresh and hardly ever slow or boring。This time I met a female lead which I got to genuinely like by the end of the story: Sarah is self-confident most of the times, she knows what she wants and will not give up the chance at her own happiness - nor at Hugh’s one, for that matter。 She is accused of being selfish by her cousin Iris, but had I been present at that moment in the book I would have said “Shut up, Iris, you know nothing”。 I love Julia Quinn’s style is always exquisite and sharp-witted, fresh and hardly ever slow or boring。This time I met a female lead which I got to genuinely like by the end of the story: Sarah is self-confident most of the times, she knows what she wants and will not give up the chance at her own happiness - nor at Hugh’s one, for that matter。 She is accused of being selfish by her cousin Iris, but had I been present at that moment in the book I would have said “Shut up, Iris, you know nothing”。 I loved the way Sarah feels in love with Hugh and I fully endorsed her flirtatious and uninhibited attitude at the end of the story (I will not spoil this point completely)。 On the other hand, Hugh Prentice is great but he could have been even GREATER, somehow。 I mean… he is the one with enough wit to fight LADY DANBURY on equal terms and yet I felt as if he didn’t quite reach his zenith by the end of it all。All things considered, this romance has much of what I expected from it: fun, love, passion, suspense and high quality humour。 Not the best of Julia Quinn’s, but certainly it is one of her 4-star books。 。。。more
